How Much Can You Earn Carrying Packages While Traveling?

On Colia, a traveler earns at least €5 per item, and at least 10% of the price when buying the product for someone. In practice, a small item often pays €5 to €30, a valuable purchase several tens of euros, and a high-end phone over €100. Here is where those numbers come from, four concrete examples, and what pushes the reward up or down.
What sets the reward
There is no price list: the reward is negotiated in the chat between you and the person asking. Five things move it: the item's weight and volume, its value (the higher it is, the more you are responsible for it), urgency, how many travelers fly your route, and whether you have to buy the product yourself.
Colia only sets a floor: €5 for an item handed to you, and 10% of the estimated price, never less than €5, for a product you buy on the spot. Above that, it is an agreement between two people.
Market benchmarks
For parcels paid by weight, the best benchmark is what informal couriers charge. Between Paris and Dakar, the couriers known as "GP" advertise around €10 to €13 per kilo in 2026. A traveler freeing up 10 kg on that route therefore has, roughly, a hundred euros' worth of space.
For purchases, the 10% rule is a minimum, not an average: a product that is hard to find, heavy or urgent is negotiated higher. Conversely, a light, common item on a route with plenty of travelers is negotiated close to the floor.
Four worked examples
A 2 kg parcel, Paris → Dakar
At GP rates, around €20 to €25. On Colia, that is a reasonable starting point for the negotiation.
$150 sneakers bought in New York
A reward of at least 10% of the price, often more if the model cannot be found in the arrival country.
An iPhone bought in the United States
At $1,199, about €1,070, the reward cannot go below €107. It is also the item that calls for the most care.
Several small items on one trip
Three or four requests at €10 to €30 each: that is where a trip's total starts to add up.
What to subtract
A reward is not net profit. Count the time for handovers (often one meeting before departure and one on arrival), a possible extra bag, and taxes if the item has to be declared at customs: agree in advance on who pays them.
For a purchase, you advance the product price, which is paid back at the handover together with the reward. Only advance it to someone whose profile and reviews you trust, and keep the invoice.
How to earn more
The travelers who earn the most fly the same route often, post their trip early, reply quickly and build up reviews. A verified profile reassures people who trust you with a valuable purchase.
Finally, depending on where you live, this income may be taxable: look into it, especially if you carry items regularly.
